The Brewster House for your intimate wedding reception!
The
Brewster House in Shullsburg Wisconsin, near Galena is a three-story
brick hotel built by Jim Brewster in 1886. In its day, it was a fine
hotel with 30 rooms, central heat, running water, electric lights and "the
most comfortable rooms this side of the Mississippi".
The 1890's were truly a time of elegance and prosperity for Shullsburg
as it was a major mining center of lead and zinc and hosted a bustling
population of 11,000. The neighboring Copeland Opera House attracted
many musicians, actors and actresses and their audiences. The Brewster
lodged many important guests.
As is the case with all mining towns, the mines played out. Boom times
turned to bust. The people left and the buildings deteriorated. In 1977,
the last of Shullsburg’s mines closed.
In 1984, the Shullsburg Creamery purchased the Brewster House and began
its long restoration. Now, once again, it is the Brewster House!
Uncompromising quality has earned this restaurant a well-deserved reputation
as the place to dine! The latest addition is the expansion of the restaurant
into the old Creamery building and the creation of an elegant 70-seat
banquet facility with a private bar. With its stone walls, tin ceilings
and hardwood floors, The Brewster House has a charm that rivals many
fine eateries in the big city.
